The Malta Chess Federation is pleased to announce its first-ever Freestyle Rapid Championship, bringing a different kind of chess challenge to Malta.
Also known as Fischer Random Chess or Chess960, this exciting variation follows the same rules as traditional chess, but with one important twist: the pieces on the back rank start in a randomised position, making every game a fresh challenge.
For this tournament, a new starting position will be drawn before every round, putting players’ creativity, adaptability and understanding of chess to the test, without relying on familiar opening preparations!
