Candidates 2022 to start in July

The Candidates, the second phase of the Malta Championship, will be held from 1st and 15th of July with seven games being played on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 18:00 at the Chess Club at St Ignatius College Ħandaq Middle School, Tal-Ħandaq, l/o Qormi.  

Players eligible for taking part must fulfill the following requirements (as per MCF Statute):

• Maltese citizen (as defined in Cap. 188 of Maltese law) or ordinarily resident in Malta for a period of at least six years in the preceding 8 years; AND
• Paid Member of the Malta Chess Federation; AND
• Qualified through the Preliminaries 2021 (Top 6) or Rating of at least 1700 in either of the last FIDE rating lists prior to Preliminaries (1 Feb 2022) or Candidates (1 June 2022)

Qualifiers and reserves from the Preliminaries should confirm their willingness to participate or otherwise by latest Friday 24 June.
