Malta Chess Federation

Empowering chess donations through APS and FIDE

The Malta Chess Federation
, in collaboration with APS Bank and the International Chess
Federation (FIDE), is pleased to announce that it will continue donating chess sets to
schools across Malta and Gozo. This initiative is part of the Federation’s ongoing efforts to
promote the game of chess among young students and foster intellectual development
through strategic thinking.

Chess sets and clocks were donated to 15 schools in Malta and 11 schools in Gozo,
including St. Aloysius College, Junior College, Sacred Heart, Archbishop Seminary and the
Rabat Middle School in Malta and Qala, Zebbug, Xewkija and Ghajnsielem Primary Schools
in Gozo. Some of these schools have also been supported in establishing dedicated chess
clubs to nurture students’ interest in the game.

In addition to providing chess equipment, the Malta Chess Federation has helped organizing
weekly chess lessons in some schools, ensuring that students receive professional guidance
and have the opportunity to improve their skills. This initiative is expected to greatly

enhance the extracurricular activities available to students and contribute to their

cognitive development.

APS Bank and FIDE‘s support has been instrumental in making this project a reality,
highlighting the importance of chess as a valuable educational tool. The Malta Chess
Federation is committed to continuing its work in bringing the benefits of chess to students
across the Maltese Islands.

The latest donations were made in the last Interschools Tournament held at St. Nicholas
College Secondary, Dingli held last April where over 150 girls and boys took part.

Mr. Jeremy Vassallo from APS Bank and Malta Chess Federation President Duncan Vella
presented the chess sets and clocks to:

De La Salle College,
St. Theresa College Mriehel Secondary,
St. Michael School,
National Sport School,
Zejtun Middle & Secondary School,

The Malta Chess Federation intends to continue with its donations in October when schools
re-open for the next scholastic year.
