1st Ladies Music and Chess Tournament Celebrates Women’s Growing Presence in Chess

The Malta Chess Federation is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the inaugural Ladies Music and Chess Tournament, held at the historic Palazzo Sapienti in Valletta.

Organised by the International Studio School of Arts (ISSA) Malta with the support of the Malta Chess Federation, the event brought together participants for a unique celebration of chess, music, creativity, and learning.

The initiative was coordinated by Malta Chess Federation Council Member Elena Ghitza, whose responsibilities within the Federation include promoting greater participation among women and girls in chess.

By combining chess and music, the tournament provided a welcoming and creative environment in which participants could compete, learn, and build new connections.

The day began with a series of musical performances by ISSA School Director Kristina Maksimovic together with female students from ISSA, setting the tone for an event that successfully blended artistic expression with intellectual competition.

In the Advanced Section, current Malta Under-14 Champion Yunlong Wang secured first place, finishing ahead of Eve Fiorini and Lucica Isabella Eileen.
