Introducing ‘Knight Shifts’: A Summer of Casual Chess Meet-ups across Malta

The Malta Chess Federation is pleased to announce Knight Shifts, a new summer initiative designed to bring people together through chess in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Knight Shifts is all about creating opportunities for people to socialise, meet fellow chess enthusiasts, enjoy a few casual games, and introduce new players to the local chess community. There are no pairings, no pressure, and no tournament format, simply good chess, good company, and a chance to enjoy the social side of the game. All ages and levels are welcome.

There will be 9 meet-ups in total, taking place every two weeks on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 21:00. The series will rotate between three unique venues across Malta: Café Riche (Birgu), Marilu’s (Siġġiewi), and Hole in the Wall (Sliema).

What to Expect

Participants are free to arrive and leave at any time during the event. Simply find an available board, challenge someone to a game, and enjoy the evening.

Chess sets will be provided by the Malta Chess Federation and participation is free of charge.

The venues will remain open to their regular customers, however dedicated tables will be reserved for chess participants. Food and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the evening, and supporting our host venues throughout the series is greatly appreciated.

We look forward to seeing many familiar and new faces around the board this summer. If you know someone who might enjoy a casual game of chess and good company, please feel free to share this event with them.
