Eligible members are invited to participate in the 2023 national championships festival which will be held at the MCF’s premises at Ħandaq Middle School, Qormi between 29 September and 22 October 2023:

Qualification Tournament for Unrated Players
Entry requirements:
- Unrated in the 1 September 2023 standard FIDE Rating List
- Maltese citizen or ordinarily resident in Malta for 6+ years out of last 8 calendar years
- Registered with FIDE (with a FIN) as a female player under the Maltese flag
- Paid-up member of the Malta Chess Federation
Non-members may apply for membership here. Membership is free for youths and cadets (born 2007 or later). Players may register under the Maltese flag through the same form.
Format: Swiss System (FIDE) 5 rounds, G/60+30 time-control, unrated

Qualifiers: Top 3 placed players (after tiebreaks) qualify to the Women’s Championship Tournament

- Rated (1000+) in the 1 September or 1 October 2023 standard FIDE Rating Lists,
OR ranked in the Top 3 in Qualifier - Maltese citizen or ordinarily resident in Malta for 6+ years out of last 8 calendar years
- Registered with FIDE (with a FIN) as a female player under the Maltese flag
- Paid-up member of the Malta Chess Federation
Schedule: from Monday 16th to Sunday 22nd of October 2023, at 18:30, daily (depending on number of entries).
Format: Round Robin (TBC), 40/90+30:G/15+30 time-control, rated

S50+ and S65+ Championship Tournament
Entry requirements:
- Born before 1974
- Maltese citizen or ordinarily resident in Malta for 6+ years out of last 8 calendar years
- Registered with FIDE (with a FIN) under the Maltese flag
- Paid-up member of the Malta Chess Federation
Non-members may apply for membership here. New players may register under the Maltese flag through the same form.

Entry requirements:- Closed participation to: 2022 Champion and Runner-up from 87th Championship Finals, and Qualifiers from Candidates 2023 (Top 6 + reserves according to ranking)
- Maltese citizen or ordinarily resident in Malta for 6+ years out of last 8 calendar years
- Registered with FIDE (with a FIN) under the Maltese flag
- Paid-up member of the Malta Chess Federation
- Rounds 1-5 on 7-11 October 2023 daily at 18:00
- Rounds 6-10 on 13-17 October 2023 daily at 18:00
- Rounds 11-14 on 19-22 October daily at 18:00
Parallel tournament
Closed to players who already participated in the 88th Malta Chess Championship cycle: Candidates 2023 and/or Preliminaries 2023 tournaments.
Format: Round Robin (up to 12 players, up to 11 rounds), G/90+30 time-control, rated

- Rounds 1-5 on 7-11 October 2023 daily at 19:00
- Rounds 6-9 on 13-16 October 2023 daily at 19:00
- Round 10 on 18 October at 19:00
